Day 18 - May 15, Thurs. - Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz - 13 miles from 7:10 am to 11:45

Stoney enjoyed 3 cups of coffee with his toast and jam before leaving the casa rural this morning and I enjoyed my cafe con leche and toast and jam. It was a little later start this morning; the sun had already risen.

We saw this in a yard as we were leaving town. Reminded us of the Manneken Pis, a landmark small bronze sculpture in Brussels, depicting a naked little boy urinating into a fountain's basin. This is stone and a grown man.

There were only a few people that we could see ahead of us today. We wondered what happened to the crowd. Again, it was cold. New today was a constant wind. We thought about the Irish poem "May the wind be always at your back and the sun upon your face" because that was our luck today. We saw lots of wind turbines; Stoney said we probably saw 250 of them.

If you look closely, you can see the distant mountains. There is still snow on some of them.

No one passed us going in our direction today except for pilgrims on bicycles. But we saw two men going the opposite direction. I wonder if he has been to Santiago and is walking back home? He was happy.

I am pretty sure this man had been to Santiago and was headed back to France. He showed me his walking staff.

That's A LOT of kilometers!

In 13 miles today we took one break at the 6 mile mark. Towns were few today. We met Nick and Natalie from Kent, England.

We also saw Brandon as we walked out of town from the coffee break. He had gotten a hair cut and shaved. We thought he would be ahead of us but a knee is bothering him. He planned a 20 mile day. I hope he made it.

Remains of a monastery, church and more.

More poppies today. When I see them I think of Christ's passion and the blood He shed for us.

Coming into Castrojeriz.

Stopped at this church on the outskirts.

This was a first. Stoney thought it would benice to have for the hills.

Our place of abode was the first one in town.

The view from the windows above our bed.
It is very quiet here except for the wind and we expect to rest well and be ready for tomorrow.
