Day 35- Sun., June 1- Sarria to Portomarin - 15 miles from 6:40 am to 12:30 pm

We were out the door at 6:15 am. We had to walk through the town and, of course, we stopped for some rocket fuel.

We passed by two more churches, crossed an old bridge and soon we were really climbing up in a beautiful forest.

After the climb, we passed through some farm land.

We saw only two others quite a ways behind us and wondered where all the people who begin at Sarria were this morning. Eventually we walked up to two women from Ireland who had just begun and will walk until Saturday. We enjoyed talking with them for a little while. I took a pic of them and will post it eventually. Loved hearing their Irish accents.

We walked for 9 miles without a break and so I was very happy to finally see a bar up ahead for a brief rest and coffee. The professors from Fordham and some students stopped here too and it was good to see them again.

We saw several milk trucks collecting today and that means our walk at times today was quite aromatic. This region of Spain is known for good cheese along with pulpo (octopus) which we probably will not try.
This little garden was a beautiful oasis for a rest break.
Portomarin ahead.
I am ready for the steps.
And behind Stoney for the "butt shot, Sue.
Not many more steps now ...
Through town behind the church.

View from our patio.
Deidre Dempsey, Theology Professor from Marquette. She is accompanying a group of students and they are walking from Leon to Santiago. I have enjoyed talking with her on two occasions.
Stoney had his pizza fix. This one had a little hard boiled egg on it. Interesting.
